Manila, Philippines, 30 November 2023 - Quisumbing Torres and Waves for Water Philippines have signed a memorandum of agreement to launch a corporate social responsibility program that aims to provide clean drinking water to Filipino communities-in-need.
A landmark initiative to celebrate the firm's 60th anniversary, the project aims to supply portable water filters to target communities annually. These filters, which can be shared by five households and can last for five years, are designed to purify water from contaminated sources without needing electricity or extensive maintenance.
Gil Roberto Zerrudo, a partner in the firm’s Employment Practice Group and co-head of the Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Group, leads the firm's significant and socially relevant CSR, ID&E, and pro bono work programs. In his more than 25 years of law practice, Gil is consistently cited as a Legal 500 and Chambers Asia Pacific leading individual for employment. He is also the Director Auxiliary Squadron of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) – 102nd Squadron, one of the logistics partner of this initiative, the National Legal Counsel and the Chief of Staff of the Internal Affairs Service of the PCGA.
“In our 60th year, we are not just celebrating our past achievements but are also looking forward to making a real difference in the future. Our collaboration with Waves for Water is a significant step towards our long-term goal of improving living conditions and fostering sustainable development in communities across the Philippines, he said.
The initiative's first outreach targets Barangays Tuna and Balibago in Talim Island, Cardona, Rizal, areas previously affected by water-borne diseases due to poor water quality.
Marvin Masangkay, partner at the firm's Dispute Resolution practice and Commander at the PCGA – 102nd Squadron, will lead the first community outreach for this CSR initiative at Talim Island.
"The Talim Island outreach demonstrates our commitment to using our resources and expertise for societal good. We are not only providing immediate relief but are also laying the groundwork for enduring solutions that will positively impact the community for years to come," he said.
The project targets to provide 3,692 individuals in 655 households on Talim Island with 131 water filter systems.
Present during the MOA signing are Quisumbing Torres representatives, Gil Zerrudo, and Marvin Masangkay, and Jenica Dizon-Mountford of Waves for Water Philippines.
Members of our logistics partner, PCGA – 102nd Squadron led by Captain Yash Torib were also present during the signing.
